Year Two

Log 10:
Ipala to Bara de Navadad

Well, before starting log 10 I’m going to digress and tell you about the blessing of the fleet. Every year, the priest in PV celebrates the holy day of fisherman by going around the whole marina in a decorated panga from boat to boat to bless it. Marilyn of Celebration was filming the procession when the priest got to Freebird. She noticed that he stopped, cocked his head to the side in mid-shake of the

Log 11:
Z Town, Butterflys, Anganaio

Z Town is a small town about the size of Paulsbo WA. It has about 5000 restaurants. Some good some not so good. Mostly fresh seafood. The town is located at the head of Zihuatanejo Bay. It is about 10 miles from the tourist destination of Ixtapa. Many of the people that work at the resorts in Ixtapa live in Z town. The bay is so well protected that we felt comfortable leaving the boat here at anchor while

Acapulco

April 3, 2003
It’s 10:00 PM. We just secured the boat to a mooring buoy in front of the Acapulco Yacht Club. We are dog tired from too little sleep and the stresses of navigation into an unfamiliar harbor. We had a 2 day passage from Z town. We can see the entire skyline of the city. Acapulco is a large city of one million people. It’s

It’s midnight. We’ve had a great three and a half day sail across the Gulf of Tehuantepec. We have been flying our spinnaker all day and have just switched down to the reacher. In a rain squall, we arrived at Bahia Santa Elena at 2:30 in the afternoon. What a gorgeous bay. It is totally lush green foliage in a secluded quiet anchorage with no one else here but us and the birds that are squawking and calling from the shore. We feel that we have found paradise. After reading in our guide book we find out

Saturday October 4, 2003
Well here we are in the Pacific islands of Panama. I’m going to say it again: This is the best so far! We anchored on a small bay on Isla Parida. From our stern we look at an island with a perfect white sand beach like you see in all the magazines. We are the only the boat in the whole island group. Just as it is getting to bie dinner time

After a nice sail we have arrived in the little village of Boca Chica. This is a little fishing village. We walk up through the main (only) street and find Victor the "cab driver". Victor has a van and will take you to David, the second largest city in Panama. The next day we head out at 0700. It's a 2 hour drive through some beautiful
