We arrived at Bundaberg Port Marina almost exactly 5 days after our departure
from Noumea. The crossing was almost uneventful except that we blew out
our beautiful spinnaker. I guess it was getting tired after 6 years of
ocean sailing.
Westerly winds had been blowing off the Australian east coast for almost a month. We watched each day as the weather reports would unfold predicting another 5 days of westerly weather. We decided to take advantage of the anomaly and sail eastward back to Vanuatu.
October 23, 2007 Under sunny skies we make our way out of the Port Vila harbor, leaving our favorite Vanuatu for the 2nd time. We're headed back to Bundaberg, Australia with a planned stop at Huon Reef in New Caledonia. Conditions are near perfect. The wind is on the port quarter at about 17 knots.

Here we are arriving back in Mooloolaba. This will be our base for the
next 6 months. The first folks we encounter are the Binet family. We met
them just briefly last year before taking off for New Caledonia. They
are living on there boat in the marina. This time Greg greets us on the
dock, takes our lines and secures Freebird right next to their catamaran,
"Liquid Insanity".
